Midwest Asian Health Association Celebrates
The National Influenza Vaccination Week

CHICAGO, December 8, 2020 – the Midwest Asian Health Association (MAHA) is pleased to announce the celebration of the National Influenza Vaccination Week (NIVW) between December 6-12. NIVW is a call to all Americans 6 months and older to get their annual influenza (flu) vaccine if they have not already. Since COVID-19 and the flu could spread simultaneously this winter, this week serves to remind people that there is still time to get a flu vaccine to protect yourself, your loved ones and your community against flu illness and serious flu complications.

MAHA’s Immunization Program has collaborated with the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) and Walgreens to provide influenza vaccine services in a community setting with language translation support. Since October 2020, MAHA’s Immunization Program has hosted 6 immunization events in Chicago and suburban communities and has provided flu shots and Hepatitis B shots to 305 community members.

“MAHA's Immunization Program is working hard to develop culturally sensitive and linguistically appropriate educational materials to increase the community awareness about the importance of immunizations. MAHA is also conducting an immunization survey to better understand the immunization barriers and needs in the target Asian community. In addition, we are developing a resource directory to increase access to immunization services for our community,” said Dr. Hong Liu, Executive Director of MAHA.

You are invited to join MAHA’s immunization events in the next two months:
