Welcome to Community Mental Health Clinic

MAHA's Community Mental Health Clinic (CMHC) was established in 2015 with the vision to provide linguistically appropriate, culturally sensitive, and financially affordable mental health services to underserved Asian, Asian American & Pacific Islander, and Asian immigrant populations in the Chicagoland area. MAHA CMHC envisions a Chicago Chinatown community in which all people, regardless of language or ability to pay, will be able to access mental health services to improve their mental, emotional, and physical well-being.

Through the provision of mental health services and community education, MAHA CMHC aims to increase awareness of mental illness, reduce the stigma associated with mental health issues, and improve individual, family, and community relationships. With collaboration with other community-based organizations, health care providers, academic institutions, public health departments, and volunteers, MAHA CMHC will play a vital role in the provision of comprehensive healthcare services to the Chinatown and larger Chicago community.

MAHA CMHC's location in the heart of Chicago's Chinatown provides current and future clients easy access to individual therapy and group counseling services. Staff bilingual in English and Mandarin Chinese also provide Asian immigrant populations the opportunity to receive mental health services in their primary language and develop relationships with therapists who may have first-hand knowledge of Asian cultures. MAHA CMHC therefore has the unique ability to provide linguistically appropriate mental health services for Chinese-speaking individuals, families, and children, but also the larger Chicago community.

Since MAHA CMHC's establishment, the most notable accomplishment has been establishing Medicaid Rule 132 compliance in August 2016. MAHA CMHC has also been continuously growing by applying for contracts with Medicaid, Medicaid Managed Care Organizations (MCOs), and private insurance companies. MAHA CMHC has also brought on new staff and consultants to continue to direct the growth of the clinic. With the agency's application for an FQHC grant, CMHC may also have the unique opportunity to be a part of a multidisciplinary team to address all aspects of wellness and health care.

MAHA CMHC's location in the heart of Chicago's Chinatown provides current and future clients easy access to individual therapy and group counseling services. The hiring of bilingual staff also addresses the need for Asian immigrant populations to access mental health services in their primary language and develop relationships with therapists who may have first-hand knowledge of Asian cultures.
