CHICAGO, Oct. 26. 2020 – The Midwest Asian Health Association (MAHA) is pleased to be selected as the award recipient for the Trauma-Informed Mental Healthcare grant provided by the Chicago Dept. of Public Health (CDPH). This grant will support MAHA’s Community Mental Health Center and provide trauma-informed mental healthcare services to medically underserved immigrants living in south and west Chicago neighborhoods.
On October 6, 2020, Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot and Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) Commissioner Allison Arwady, M.D., announced $8 million in annual grant funding to 32 community-based organizations located in high need areas. These 32 centers of care will work with the existing CDPH mental health clinics in comprising a mental health safety net system where all persons can receive care regardless of ability to pay, health insurance status or immigration status. MAHA is honored to be one of the 32 organizations receiving this award.
“The grant will enhance MAHA’s Mental Health Center capacity to provide more care to the immigrants in a culturally competent and linguistically appropriate environment. I am grateful to Mayor Lightfoot and CDPH for this much needed funding support to close the mental healthcare gap for immigrant populations”, said, Dr. Hong Liu, MAHA Executive Director.
