The Midwest Asian Health Association (MAHA) has an opening for a part-time or full-time Health Insurance Navigator intern to begin immediately.
Introduction: The Health Insurance Navigator Program at MAHA was established in 2013 with funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Center of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The goal of the program is to help underserved and uninsured Asian immigrants increase healthcare knowledge and resources, and empower them with self-management ability for health care through activities including social media campaign, community outreach education, in-person counseling, and assistance with enrollment and post enrollment support.
Typical Duties:
- Providing education and consultation about health insurance.
- Assisting with application for Medicaid or Marketplace Qualified Health Plans (QHPs)
- Providing support in retaining of health coverage.
- Providing assistance with coordination of clients’ healthcare needs and maintenance of effective communications with health insurance companies and health care providers, and other health coverage related assistance.
- Prepare data briefs, reports, policy statements, presentations, and other materials as needed.
- Carry out project-related administrative responsibilities and perform other duties as required.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Must be enrolled in university at undergraduate or graduate level, studying in public health, health administration, communications, marketing, global health, education, social work or other equivalent field preferred.
Experience and Qualification:
- Bilingual speaker required (Spanish, Cantonese and Mandarin speaker highly preferred).
- Knowledge and professional experience in health insurance or related fields preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills, comfortable with public speaking.
- Flexible working hours with the ability to work independently.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Demonstrated cultural competence and professionalism in the workplace.

Purpose of the Program: The Suicide Prevention Program (SPP) is funded by the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) under the leadership of the Chicago Collaborative for Bullying and Suicide Prevention (CCBSP). The purpose of this program is to reduce stigma around suicide in Chicago by forming a collaborative that will work together to provide culturally competent and language appropriate education and intervention practices to the target population.
Typical Duties:
• Assist in expanding, sustaining, and coordinating a multi-sector coalition in Chicago by reaching out to schools, churches and local community organizations.
• Attend meetings with social service agencies, law enforcement, schools, and community-based organizations.
• Manage social media channels, including Twitter and Facebook.
• Assist the program in planning prevention activities to meet the aims and objectives of the program.
• Conduct presentations, training, and coaching to parents and youth about various topics including risk factors of bullying or suicide, intervention practices, healthy relationships and positive parenting.
• Assist in distributing matching materials (posters, flyers, and brochures) to schools, parents, and community members at events and meetings.
• Assist in preparing, reports, presentations, and other materials as needed.
• Carry out project-related administrative responsibilities and perform other duties as required.

The Midwest Asian Health Association (MAHA) has an opening for a part-time or full-time internship to begin immediately.
Purpose of the Program: The Elimination of Immunization Disparities Program (EIDP) is funded by the Office of Health Protection through the Illinois Department of Public Health. The purpose of this program is to create targeted interventions to address areas of racial and economic disparities related to vaccination coverage in children, adolescents and adults.
Typical Duties:
• Assist in expanding, sustaining, and coordinating a multi-sector coalition in Chicago by reaching out to schools, churches, hospitals, clinics and local community organizations.
• Attend meetings with social service agencies, law enforcement, schools, and community-based organizations.
• Manage social media channels, including Twitter and Facebook.
• Assist in planning activities to meet the aims and objectives of the program.
• Conduct presentations, training, and coaching to adult and youth about various topics including: maintaining vaccination coverage levels for children in kindergarten; increasing the percentage of providers who have had vaccination coverage levels among children in their practice population measured within the past year; disease prevention.
• Assist in distributing matching materials (posters, flyers, and brochures) to schools, parents, and community members at events and meetings.
• Assist in preparing, reports, presentations, and other materials as needed.
• Carry out project-related administrative responsibilities and perform other duties as required.

Midwest Asian Health Association (MAHA) is a non-profit organization with a mission to reduce health disparities for Asian and Pacific Islander Americans (APIAs) and other low-income immigrant populations through culturally sensitive and linguistically appropriate community health programs. As a MAHA Intern, you will have the opportunity to fulfill your field requirements with the purpose of facilitating the achievement of client wellness and autonomy.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide comprehensive bio-psychosocial assessment services to adult, children, adolescents, and their families.
- Assist in developing individualized treatment plans with the input of the client and their team, which includes providers and natural supports. Collaborate with members of the clients’ team to ensure quality of treatment and coordination of care.
- Serve as an advocate for clients, linking them to needed community services; assess clients’ personal, medical, social, emotional, and environmental situation to plan for linkage and treatment course.
- Provide strengths-based, client-centered, and trauma-informed clinical services to adults, children and adolescents with mental health diagnoses.
- Maintain documentation and chart in compliance with Medicaid, Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Services (CARF), and agency standards.
- Perform other related duties and/or projects as assigned.
- Active and thoughtful participation in individual and group supervisions, as well as trainings.
- Must be in good standing with academic program and meet requirements for second year placement
- Availability to work 20 to 24 Hours a week.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, social work, counseling, behavioral science,Counseling or marriage and family therapy required.
Experience and Qualification:
- Experience working with adults, children, adolescents, and/or transition age youth and their families.
- Availability to begin early August 2020 and work until the end of May 2021.
- Must pass IM+CANS exam within one month of start date.
- Availability to attend monthly team meeting.
- Bilingual in Spanish, Cantonese or Mandarin preferred, but not required.
