Internship/Volunteer Position I

WHO WE ARE

Midwest Asian Health Association (MAHA) is a non-profit organization with a mission to reduce health disparities for Asian and Pacific Islander Americans (APIAs) through culturally sensitive and language appropriate community health programs. MAHA is seeking volunteers/interns for its newly established coalition of the Substance Abuse Prevention Program. The coalition’s mission is to strengthen collaborations among community partners for reducing substance use among the Asian and Latino youth in the McKinley Park of Chicago.

WHAT RESPONSIBILITIES ARE

• Attend bi-monthly Coalition meetings.
• Serve as a member of a task force and/or subcommittee group
• Participate in the program activities such as community outreach
• Help assess community needs and identify existing resources
• Assist with developing plans of action to carry out the coalition’s mission
• Assist with coordinating programs and resources to maximize impact
• Develop a mechanism for evaluating and monitoring the strategies

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience with Latino community highly desirable
• Enthusiasm and resourcefulness
• Spanish Speaker highly preferred

Program Assistant Internship

WHO WE ARE

Midwest Asian Health Association (MAHA)’s mission is to reduce health disparities for medically underserved, low-income populations in the Midwest though providing culturally sensitive and linguistically appropriate services, which include community outreach education, screening and immunization, linkage to care, mental health services, and research and policy advocacy. To serve its mission, MAHA collaborates with community-based organizations, health care providers, academic institutions, public health departments, and volunteers.

MAHA is seeking a part-time intern/volunteer program assistant for its Community Mental Health Clinic, which provides culturally sensitive mental health counseling services to children and adults, couples, and families.

WHAT RESPONSIBILITIES ARE

• Provide administrative support for client charts and other program documentation
• Perform data entry for program analytics and evaluation
• Attend mental health team meetings
• Assist with social media marketing and outreach
• Collaborate with other internal MAHA programs as needed
• Perform other administrative (billing, utilization review, administrative support) tasks as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum high school degree, Bachelors degree preferred
• Interest in and commitment to the field of mental health
• Cultural sensitivity and awareness, particularly with Asian/Asian American and immigrant populations
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Windows
