The Midwest Asian Health Association (MAHA) is pleased to announce a grant award from the CDC Foundation to facilitate an Asian COVID Equity Alliance (ACEA). This effort is made possible through a grant from the CDC Foundation with support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

The purpose of this collaborative is to improve effective and equitable access to the COVID vaccines and testing serving the under-resourced and/or disproportionately affected Asian immigrant populations in Chicago. MAHA is honored to be selected as one of the five agencies nationwide receiving this two-year award.

The CDC Foundation is an independent nonprofit and the sole entity created by Congress to mobilize philanthropic and private-sector resources to support the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s critical health protection work.

MAHA, as the leading agency, will employ its extensive proven experience as a trusted grassroots organization in Chicago’s Asian communities to mobilize a targeted and culturally competent community engagement plan. MAHA and its partners serve primarily low income and low-literacy Asian populations with limited English proficiency who face language and cultural barriers to health care and resources, including barriers related to an undocumented immigration status. “We are very excited about establishing the partnership to support COVID-19 prevention planning, community outreach education, testing, and timely vaccination of these populations” said, Dr. Hong Liu, Executive Director of MAHA.

Our partners include (by alphabetic order): America China Northeastern Chinese General Association, American Fujian Chamber of Commerce, Asian Cultural Center, Asian Leadership Council, Association of Chinese Americans/Wuyi Association of Chicago,  Cambodian Association of Illinois, Coalition for a Better Chinese American Community, Chicago Guang Zhou Association, Chicago North Shore Chinese Center, Chinatown Chamber of Commerce, Chinese American Museum of Chicago, Chinese American Service League, Chinese Mutual Aid Association, City of Chicago – 25th Ward, Greater Chicago Chinese American Women Chamber of Commerce, Hanul Family Alliance, Happy for Fitness, Illinois Dept. of Public Health-Health Center for Minority Health Services, Indo American Center, Mid-America Restaurant Association, Project Vision, PuiTak Center, UCA-Illinois, Vietnamese Association of Illinois, Xilin Association, Yellow River Performing Arts, 168 Fitness Team.
